PERFORMANCE
SPORT

Every year, sports clubs at Warwick apply for Team Warwick Performance (TWP) Status. The Warwick Squash Club has been part of the Performance programme for a number of years and along with Badminton are the first to receive the highest 'Platinum' status under the new format.

Benefits.

As a Platinum Performance Club, Warwick Squash has access to a wide access of resources for the committed athlete. We are one of two Platinum clubs, and with a full-time Head Coach, you can be sure that your squash will improve by leaps and bounds through joining the TWP squad.

The TWP programme is 12-months long and includes pre-season and in-season training. You also have the opportunity to play on our Warwick-Kenilworth PSL team.

Find out more on the Warwick Sport page.

Training

Other than the weekly squad training every Friday, you will have the chance to train on courts on Monday and Thursday in weekly group sessions helmed by our Head Coach. Being part of TWP = more court time at no extra cost to you!

1-on-1 Training

As a TWP athlete, you will also have the chance to organise regular individual coaching sessions with either our Head or Assistant Coach. Ideal for fixing your swing or perfecting a new shot!

Nutrition Support

TWP works together with the University of Coventry in delivering talks on nutrition and creating individual meal plans if you are interested in it.

Strength & Conditioning (S&C)

As part of the TWP squad, you will have the chance to join our S&C sessions that are held 2 to 3 times a week. This is held in the Warwick Sports Hub with a fantastic gym facility, and you will have a personalised training programme developed jointly by our Head Coach, a UKSCA accredited S&C Coach, and yourself!

Note: This is not compulsory. You can join the TWP squad without joining S&C. However, if what is preventing you from joining is the gym membership fees, do get in touch with us or our Head Coach, Steve Townsend. There are Sports Scholarships available that can reduce the costs associated with joining the S&C sessions.

Physiotherapy

There are drop-in sessions at Warwick Sport Physiotherapy Clinic every Friday morning for you to fix any aches or injuries. If you need extra physiotherapy support, do contact our Head Coach as our TWP programme has a fund to help you.

This is available to both international and national students. Find out more and apply on the Warwick Sport Page!

TWP

Pre-season Trip.

As part of our pre-season training, we hold a pre-season trip with the Badminton squad. In 2019/20, this was held at Lake Bled, Slovenia. Some of our TWP members joined it, playing squash and badminton, running and biking in summery Slovenia, while getting to know the rest of the squad better.

Having been prevented from travelling in 2020, we're looking forward to our 2021/22 pre-season trip to Snowdonia in Wales!

How to Join the TWP Squad.

Come down for our trials in Term 1 Week 1!

If you make the team, our Club Captains will send out a form that you can fill in to apply for the TWP programme. Our Head Coach then chooses those who make the TWP Squad based on your potential, your commitment and your ability.

That means that even if you aren't the best player, you still have a shot at joining our TWP squad because we believe that good attitude and growth make athletes great too.

Ranked player?

Are you already a ranked player considering coming to Warwick University for your undergraduate or postgraduate studies? Better yet, have you committed to Warwick?

Email our Head Coach, Steve Townsend, at Steven.Townsend@warwick.ac.uk. You'll have a chance to join our pre-season training even before joining the club!
